Why I workout at home
When I began my journey to a healthier me, I only had the option of working out at home. I have 3 kids (if you haven’t picked up on that already) and my youngest still wasn’t in school. So working out from home was out of necessity. But did I actually prefer it this way because the whole experience of working out regularly was all foreign to me, and I just felt more secure being able to do it by myself – no judging eyes.
Being a mom and working a full time job from home left me with a weird schedule. I actually found myself working out a lot of times pretty late at night because the kids were finally in bed and it was about the only time I could find during the day. But the important part of this is that no matter the time of day, I was trying really hard to designate some form of exercise. I was trying my best to make it a habit.
This year my youngest finally started kindergarten. It was a weird transition for me because I was so used to having her here. She knew the rountine. When it was time for mommy to workout, she went to her room, or her brothers room to watch some TV and play while I got my workout in. Now that she’s in school I technically could go to the gym, but I don’t really have the urge to. I like being able to workout at home. I do not have a big house. I do not have a “workout” room. My workout room is my livingroom, my TV, my DVDs, and all my workout accessories that are stashed away in the ottoman in my livingroom – and I’m okay with this.
But it may not be for everyone. You may feel like you’re more motivated when you’re surrounded by other people. You may just like the atmosphere of a gym, or being in a big class setting. There is no wrong or right way to do this. Do not for a minute think you need a join a gym to become more fit. You don’t need fancy equipment. You don’t need a personal trainer. You just need to dedicate yourself to making whatever you choose to do a habit for life.
I’ve heard people use the excuse that they don’t like working out from home, but also don’t have time to make it to the gym. Perhaps it’s not that you don’t like working out a home – maybe you just haven’t found the right workout for you. There are so many home workout programs nowadays that I find it really hard to believe someone can’t find something they will like doing at home.
And now, here’s a few reasons why I like working out from home.
No worries about how beat up my workout clothes may be lookin.
I can make every weird damn noise I please.
Save money on gas.
No gym fees.
No excuses for myself that I can’t get to the gym.
and my husband says I’m not allowed to have a personal trainer anyway on the basis that it’s no better than having a pool boy.
My workout space. My weights, my ottoman off to the right, my dvds, my notebook & pen for jotting down thoughts and reps. Oh and I didn’t bother picking up the trash my kids left in the floor. Oh well, Whatcha gonna do?
Where do you prefer to workout? At home? Outside? At the gym?
